I had the chance to be Lead artist and Art Director for UCSB's student publication Zeitgeist that paid homage to late 60's counter-culture magazines like San Francisco's Zap Comics and Australia's Oz Magazine. I resuccitated the art and feel of black and white Max Fleschier art in its new role as court jester for social commentary and student issues.
Homages to long-standing heroes of mine from underground art, from Victor Moscoso to Robert Crumb, Stanley Mouse and Rick Griffin came to the forefront using just Radiograph pens and no digital imagery.
The issues were printed in simple newsprint for their limited 6-run series. Within the pages of Zeitgeist wove through panels that addressed journeys of the mind, body and art inside the Ivory Tower world of UCSB.
